Cartograms is about memory. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, memory is “the power or process of reproducing or recalling what has been learned and retained especially through associative mechanisms.” In dealing with memory, we all build unique mental patterns, and that’s what I wanted to work with in this series. Another aspect that I wanted to touch was that recurring process of getting lost in our mind through a sequence of thoughts/memories that connect with one another. That process usually ends up somewhere far from where we started. Each of these pieces was time-consuming. Every element had to be cut and glued by hand, but it was an enjoyable process that allowed me to get lost in it for hours.
